Ex-Eagles captain Nwosu seeks support for heart ailment

Former Super Eagles skipper, Henry Nwosu is now down with a heart-related ailment and requires urgent medical attention.

Nwosu who was in the Eagles squad that won the first Africa Cup of Nations on home soil in Lagos in 1980 has been unhealthy lately as stated by his sister, Mrs. Ijeoma Onyewuchi.

She said that the Eagles legend’s family and a few other well-wishers have spent over N4m on his treatment without progress.

Onyewuchi noted that the family decided it was best to take him to another hospital with subsequent improvement since his admission to the Asaba Specialist Hospital in Asaba, Delta State.

“We have been on it for quite some time now. He has been taken to several hospitals in Owerri but we have not got the desired result,” she said.

“What we noticed is that he only gets a temporary cure and it resurfaces again after a while. We have spent over N3m but it has not improved.”

When she was quizzed to explain the prognosis, she said the various tests that have been carried out indicated heart-related complaints and that he had swollen legs at a time, and was difficult for him to walk.

She said the Nwosu family had kept his health issue private despite pressure from well-wishers to make it public.

One of those that have waded into the current situation of the ex-Flying Eagles coach is Harrison Jalla who is the chairman, of the Task Force of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria.

Jalla wrote: “Nwosu who meritoriously served Nigeria in the 1980s and 1990s is down with an ailment that requires urgent medical attention, this writer just got off the phone this morning with Nwosu whose speech is already blurred. The situation requires urgent medical attention.

“This is a clarion call to the NFF, Hon. Minister of Sports, the government of Imo state, and all Nigerians of Goodwill to rally around him.”

The Chairman of, the Imo Football Association, Mazi Amanze Uchegbulam also expressed concerns about the health situation of the former star, while praying that God grants him divine healing.
