Ex-ECA chief Adedeji to be buried July 7

The pioneer Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission of Africa (ECA), Professor Adebayo Adedeji, who died on April 25, will be buried on July 7, the family has announced.

The erudite scholar was 87.

The ceremonies preceding the funeral in his hometown of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State begins on 4 July.

A statement yesterday by the family said the funeral rites would start with a service of songs on July 4.

A Christian wake follows on July 5, while a funeral service holds at Cathedral Church of Our Saviour on July 6.

A memorial symposium in his honour by ECA will hold in Lagos, on July 7.

On July 8, the rites will end with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Our Saviour in Ijebu-Ode, where Adedeji worshipped.

Adedeji, who was also pioneer chairman of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), is survived by 11 children.

He was also Nigeria’s post-civil war Federal Commissioner of Economic Development and Reconstruction.

Adedeji held the traditional titles of Asiwaju of Ijebu and Olotu’fore of Ijebu-Ode.
