Ex-Minister Oluwasanmi dead

Former Minister of State for Power and Steel Chief Oyekunle Oluwasanmi has died. A statement by his family said Chief Oluwasanmi died on July 14. He was 85.

He was chairman of the board of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in 1992. He was also a member of Kinley Securities Limited and Wise Health Services, among others.

In 1995, the military government appointed him as a member of the Committee for States and Local Governments creation, which led to the creation of Ekiti, Ebonyi, Nassarawa, Gombe, Zamfara and Bayelsa states in 1996.

Chief Oluwasanmi was appointed minister of state for Power and Steel in 1997 and, under his watch, many reforms, which positively impacted the country’s power and steel sector, were introduced.

The deceased hailed from Ipetu-Ijesha in Oriade Local Government of Osun State, where he was engaged in community-building initiatives.

He is survived by his wife Grace, children and grandchildren.
