Former Chairman of the Lagos State Principals Cup Committee Alhaji Jimoh Gbadamosi, has donated a trophy for inter-house school football competition to Methodist Boys High School, Victoria Island.
The gesture was in honour of Brig-Gen Mobolaji Johnson, an old student of the school, who was a military administrator of Lagos State between May 1967 and July 1975.
Gbadamosi described Johnson as a capable and transparent administrator who managed a cabinet that represented the good of the people. He recounted how Johnson awarded scholarships to over 1,000 indigent students of the state within and outside the country.
He noted that the former military administrator encouraged the development of secondary school football and contributed to the welfare of the people.
Gbadamosi said: “The Governor always showed keen interest in almost all the secondary school football matches played; and it is for this reason that I feel the former military governor deserves a sport trophy for his alma mater to be named after him. Also, his school was the first to win the Zard Cup now known as the Lagos State Principals Cup in 1948.
“It should be a pride to his alma mater that Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson was responsible for the successful construction of the Lagos-Badagry Express Road, Ikorodu-Itokin Express Road, Ikorodu Road, Alhaji Musha Road and two flyovers, Ogunlana Drive, Adelabu Street and many solid roads with good drains in residential areas of the state, including Ogba and Illupeju housing estates.’’
