Online lifestyle and parenting platform, Fabmumng, is putting together the maiden edition of Fabmum’s Day Out. Founder of the platform, which is devoted to mothers in Nigeria, Mrs. Jayne Augoye, says the event is designed to be a refreshing spa date for mums.
According to her, it was imperative to come up with the initiative as a way to bring mums together in a fun atmosphere to care for their well-being.
Speaking on the event which comes up on Friday, June 15 at Biyou Spa, Ikeja, Lagos, Aguoye said; “Mothering is hard work. It is constant work. It is so easy to stop caring for you or to get overwhelmed. But, when you stop caring for yourself, your ability to care for your child is impacted and your ability to enjoy motherhood is impacted.
“Managing a big career and a big family takes energy, so smart women manage their own energy like they’d manage an important direct report. Sleep is one necessary component, exercise, networking and going to the spa are ways with which a mum can recharge. We know that in this part of the world, spas are regarded as being for the rich alone. This is why the fee is highly subsidized so mums of all ages/classes can afford to attend it.”
In addition, she said that mums need to realise that it’s not selfish to care for oneself once in a while.
“A mom who is well rested, eats a healthy diet, gets plenty of exercise, maintains close relationships with friends and gets help when she realises she isn’t coping well, is far more equipped to be the best mother she can be than one who doesn’t do those things. It isn’t selfish to take time to exercise or to get an adequate sleep each night,” she noted.
A mother of triplets, Aguoye also revealed that guest experts will take mums through wellness and health issues.
