Police in Adamawa State have arrested a man who allegedly poses as a soldier and extorts money from people.
The man, 22-year old Paul Shaltha, a resident of Sabon Gari, in Sangere Futy, Girei Local Governmernt Area, was arrested on Sunday.
A statement by police spokesman Suleiman Nguroje said Shaltha was picked up for extorting tricycle operators and members of the public.
“Paul Shaltha, the self-aclaimed soldier, was on Sunday arrested for extorting money from a tricycle operator who allegedly violated traffic rules,” the statement stated,” Nguroje said.

“The operatives apprehended the suspect who was sighted parading himself as a military man threatening and extorting money from the public.
“Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Sikiru Akande, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), CP’s Monitoring unit, Public Intellegence Bureau (PIB) to descend on people of questionable character,” the statement said.
It added that the CP also ordered the Deputy Commmissioner of Police to immediately take over the Shaltha matter and ensure discreet investigation and prosecution.
