Fani-Kayode urges anti-graft agencies to probe PDP leaders

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has urged anti-graft agencies to investigate the alleged involvement of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in misappropriation of the party’s funds.

He said the opposition leaders should be probed because they are not above the law.

Fani-Kayode, a lawyer and defector from the PDP, who is also answering corruption charges in court, said security agencies should get into the root of the alleged “bribe money” paid into the account of PDP National Working Committee (NWC) members.

In a tweet, the former minister described the All Progressives Congress (APC) NWC, led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, as the most transparent party leadership in the country.

Fani-Kayode, who is the APC Campaign Director of New Media, said the testimonies of PDP chieftains, including Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, have compounded the financial misappropriation and diversion controversy.

He said: “Dino Malaye said the governors of PDP used public funds to ensure the election of Ayu. Nyesom Wike said N1 billion was “stolen” by Ayu. Some NWC members of PDP returned questionable funds which were sent to them by Ayu. All these and Ayu has not been invited and questioned?”

The controversial politician wondered why security agencies have not invited the PDP chieftains for questioning.

He queried: “Why have security agencies not rounded him and all the other members of the PDP NWC up and questioned them about his bogus and perfidious election as national chairman, the misappropriation and diversion of one billion naira and the ‘bribe’ money that was paid into the bank accounts of the PDP NWC members? Are Ayu and the leaders of the opposition above the law?”

There have been post-presidential primary crises in the main opposition party, following the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s candidate and Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

Wike, an aggrieved former presidential aspirant, has made sweeping allegations that have not been proved.

The Rivers governor and his group have insisted that the PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, should resign in the spirit of fairness, equity and justice.

The PDP Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, has refuted allegations of bribery, clarifying that the money paid into the bank accounts of NWC members were housing allowances.

However, Fani-Kayode, who compared PDP NWC and APC NWC, said the leadership of the ruling party has passed the integrity test.

He said: “There is no political party that has a national chairman and NWC that is transparent, accountable and responsible as the NWC of the APC under the distinguished leadership of Senator Adamu Abdullahi.

“Unlike the NWC of PDP, they did not steal one billion to share amongst themselves in the name of housing allowance.”
