‘FCC will reinforce national inclusiveness’

Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) Dr Muheeba Dankaka has reiterated the commission’s commitment to reinforcing the spirit of inclusiveness by ending feelings of marginalisation and alienation among citizens.

Dankaka, at a sensitisation for Northeast stakeholders yesterday in Abuja, said FCC is determined to correct some wrong perceptions about the country among citizens.

According to Dankaka, the sensitisation, themed ‘Integrating Strategic Partnership with Critical Stakeholders and Advocacy on Balanced Development’, would go a long way in setting the records straight where the wrong perceptions have held sway.

She said: “Over time and since I assumed office, one critical factor that has been a recurring decimal is the lack of understanding and perception of the Federal Character principle among the people, and specifically among our stakeholders. This deficit of comprehensiveness has, in many ways, affected the total implementation of the principle of equity, justice and fairness in the distribution and proportional sharing of, not only bureaucratic posts, but the more germane and widely acclaimed distribution of infrastructural facilities, resources and social amenities among federating units.

“Having observed the above gaps, the commission began a deliberate policy to advocate a series of interactions with stakeholders that are directly or indirectly involved with implementation. These are not only limited to federal ministries, departments and agencies, but also extended to states’ MDAs, as well as international development partners, non-governmental organisations, the media and hosts of others.

“This, it is believed, will pave the way for the actualisation of the Federal Character principal and eliminate suspicion and feelings of marginalisation and alienation among the people. And since the policy thrust of this government aims at ensuring integrated and balanced development of the country, it becomes obvious that the twin-mandate of the commission can provide a veritable platform for its actualization,”
