The President, Nigerian Institute of Builders in Facility management, Olufemi Akinsola, has lamented that the Federal Government keeps losing money and capital investment to non-maintenance culture in building.
Akinsola made this known at the investiture with the theme, ‘Facilities management: An x-ray on stakeholders and policies in Abuja, stating that the culture of building maintenance is important to the economy .
He noted that 90 per cent of life circle of a building is being carried out by a facility manager while adding that for a complex and dynamic structure a facility management practitioners is required to handle it.
He said builders concluded that in the institution a would be member would be made to sign an agreement that he is ready to be re-trained and if he does not take up the training, he loses his registration and membership.
According to him, the responsibility of a facility manager is to make a building comfortable, convenient and habitable. Again the economic burden of the building until it gets obsolete is the work of facility manager.
