FG launches fight against fake pesticide

The Federal Government has expressed disgust over the manufacturing and circulation of adulterated pesticides, as concerned regulatory agencies have been mandated to immediately adopt stiffer measures to curb the threat to life.

The Director General/Chief Executive, Standard Organization of Nigeria(SON)  Anthony Aboloma Thursday) in Kano said, the Federal Government has directed SON and departments of agriculture in the country,  to strengthen their approach toward eliminating  the threat  and get rid of the criminal gangsters involved  in the manufacture, sales, and distribution of unwholesome pesticides in Nigeria.

The SON, chief Executive,   in a keynote address, at a seminar with the  theme:  Quality Awareness Programme  on Danger of Substandard Adulterated Pesticide on Farms  held at Grand Central Hotel, Kano   disclosed that, regulatory approach will be strengthened to address,  what  he described as trade malpractice.

Aboloma said:  “Current worldwide  trend shows an increase in the sale of pesticides products that are substandard contents or do not contain active ingredients, falsified with  false country of origin,  or re-labelled expired stock, illegal, illicit or counterfeit copies of legitimate brands.
