Flamingos forward Opeyemi Ajakaye has enthused over the team’s qualification for the quarter final of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.
The striker also savoured her nomination again as the Player of the Match of their 2-1 win over stubborn Chile.
Just like it was against New Zealand which they won 4-0 Ajakaye was again named the Player of the Match for the second straight game after her impressive display against Chile who ended their second appearance in the competition at the group stage yesterday.
“Happy to have received the player of the match award against Chile! Even happier to have qualified for the knockout stage!!” the 16-year-old Lagos State Football Association Most Valuable Player (MVP) wrote on her twitter handle.

Meanwhile, it was Emmanuel Blessing gave the fourth time quarter finalists the lead with four minutes on the clock after a good assist from Ajakaye while 15-year-old Bisola Mosaku doubled Flamingos’ advantage in the 82nd minute.
Tali Rovner pulled one back for the Chileans from the penalty spot after Omamuna Edafe handled the ball in her box in the 90th minute.
The Flamingos have made it to the knockout stages in 2010, 2012 and 2014 previously but failed to advance to the last eight in 2016 when they last qualified for the competition.
They will trade tackles with the United States on Friday in the quarter final with the objective of qualifying for the semi-final for the first time in the history of the competition.
