A mysterious fire on Thursday razed 150 shops Kara market in Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State.
It was the third time the market was razed by fire since 2015.
One of those affected by the incident, Mr. Sun Ismali, whose house and shop were razed by the fire, said he was not at home when the fire started.
Ismail said the money he kept in his room and other items were lost to the inferno.
Another shop owner, Mallam Muhammad Aliu, said he lost goods worth N1m to the fire.
An eyewitness, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, whose shop was not affected by the inferno, said the fire broke out from a nearby shop at about 9:00 a.m.
According to him, the fire has spread before men of the Edo State Fire Service could arrived the scene.
“Around 9:00 a.m., they called me on the phone that Kara Market was on fire and before I could get here, the whole place has been razed down.
“When I asked that what caused the fire outbreak, they told me that it was a power surge that started from the shop of a woman selling food at the market.
“The men of the Edo State Fire Service arrived here at 9:20 a.m. but before they came, the shops were burnt down.
“This is the third times the market has been burnt down by fire since 2015,” he said.
