The Katsina State Government has announced plans to revive 32 water irrigation projects across various parts of the state as part of its plans to relocate conventional farmers who were displaced by the activities of bandits to the irrigated farming facilities.
The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Aminu Garba Waziri who made this known in a chat with Katsina Press Forum in Katsina, also announced that several households have already been engaged in the irrigation activities as a means of providing alternative livelihood to farmers and ensure food security in the state.
Dr Waziri also announced that the state government has also distributed improved seedlings and a variety of seeds to farmers through various groups and associations.
He further stated that several measures have been put in place by the government to ensure food security and safety of the farmers living in the security frontline local government areas of the state.
Also, Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari yesterday promised that the Katsina State branch of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) would be adequately protected.
The governor made the promise while playing host to the NYSC.
The Coordinator in Katsina State Hajiya Muhammad Aisha also assured the Coordinator that the state government will continue its assistance to the scheme in the state.
She said: “The people of Katsina State were friendly and hospitable. We assure you of adequate security of lives and properties of the Corps members and members of staff.”
Aisha told the governor that she was in his office to present herself and inform him that she has assumed duty as the NYSC Coordinator in the state.
She also pleaded with the governor to look into the payment of Corps members’ allowances which she said was not regular. She also requested feeding augmentation for Corps members during orientation courses.
Hajiya Muhammad invited the governor to be her guest in the swearing-in ceremony of the 2022 Batch “B” stream 2 Corps members scheduled for Tuesday, July 26.
