The Katsina State Police Command yesterday said it busted a four-man robbery gang.
It said one of the suspected fleeing robbers died in a lone ghastly accident involving the vehicle he and his colleagues snatched from a woman in Katsina.
The police said the dead suspect, who was in his early ‘20s, on June 27, along with his colleagues, stormed the house of the vehicle owner at 7.30 p.m and stole it with other items.
Police Commissioner Muhammadu Wakili, who confirmed the incident to reporters in Katsina, said the body of the suspect was found inside the vehicle in the lone accident.
He said: “On June 27, at 19.45 hours (7.45 p.m), a patrol team attached to Sabon Gari Division received a distress call that armed robbers were attacking Hajiya Aisha Abdullahi in her house at Sabuwar Unguwar Quarters, Katsina. The hoodlums robbed her of a Toyota Highlander, 2003 model, ash-coloured with registration number AS 579 KTS.
“The police team swung into action and while moving towards the scene, sighted a vehicle with the description on an accident scene adjacent to GRA Jummat Mosque in Katsina.
“The only occupant, suspected to be one of the robbers, died in the accident.”
Wakili said investigation revealed the identity of the suspected robber and led to the arrest of three other suspects.
He gave the names of the suspects as: Sanusi Abdullahi, 22; Mansur Abdullahi 21 and Aliyu Salisu, 22, all residents of Katsina.
The police chief recalled that Salisu was caught with a stolen Honda CRV with Nasarawa State registration number: BE 788 NSR, said to belong to Nasiru Lawal, a resident of Katsina.
“All the suspects will soon be charged to court after our investigation,” he said.
