Two hundred motorists and residents have benefited from free health care organised by Lagos State Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps as part of ‘ember’ months campaign.
Beneficiaries were given eye screening, sugar level and blood pressure tests.
The event, which is yearly for FRSC, kicked off at More Blessing Motor Park in Ikorodu, with the theme: Avoid Over Speeding, Overlaoding, Unsafe Tyre to Arrive Alive.
Lagos Sector Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, representing RS2 zonal commander, lamented rise in traffic incidents despite high road safety public enlightenment.
Assistant Corp Marshal, Peter Kibo, the zonal commanding officer, represented by Segun Ogungbemide, sector commander, said road safety was everybody’s business, stressing that one of the greatest blessings God gave to Lagos was traffic gridlock.
He said during gridlock and traffic bottlenecks, crashes were low, unlike when roads were free, where drivers over-speed and before long distress calls to evacuate crash victims start coming.

“Many users accuse government of not repairing roads, but we have a high number of crashes on smooth roads.” Kibo said.
He said virtually all religious houses pray for protection, adding both drivers and commuters too had roles to play on safety on the road.
Kibo pleaded with drivers to avoid night driving, saying 50 per cent of deaths recorded in 2022 happened in the night.
Head of Operation, Mr Lucas Oguntade, described ‘ember months’ as months of intensive activities involving much travelling. He said most accidents occurred because of bad sight, and hailed the doctor, who supported them with free medical test, and Vision Spring for providing 250 free glasses.
