The Ota Unit Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Adekunle Oguntoyinbo, has appealed to Ogun State to evacuate street beggars on the overhead and under bridge of Sango and its environs and relocate them to a secure and safer environment.
He said 100 people apparently living with disability have made the highway a permanent place to seek alms from the public.
Oguntoyinbo said besides exposing themselves to traffic risks and dangers, especially to the children staying there with them, they also constitute traffic nuisance.
The unit commander spoke in his office following a crash last week that killed one of the beggars. Three others sustained injuries.
According to the FRSC commander, the Faragon bus, registered as FST663XW with eight occupants coming from Lagos, rammed into the beggars when its brakes failed.
He appealed to the state to find a safe and secure environment where the beggars can relocate to.
