Governor blames dwindling revenue for education funding

Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has said the problem of funding in education is a national issue.

The governor, who spoke through his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola Olateju, said the country was facing economic problem of dwindling resources and a rapidly growing population.

He said receipt from oil was not enough to help the situation.

“Every month, the federal allocation to states keeps going down. Ondo State is working hard at improving its productive base by improving cost of doing business to attract investors and expanding its internally generated revenue base.

“Governor Akeredolu will continue to devote resources to education. Under this administration, a lot has been done in improving infrastructure and delivery of basic education and we are working hard at post-basic and tertiary education.”

On the issues raised by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Ondo State chapter, the governor said it was false and malicious for the NMA to say there were no specialists in the state hospital.

“There are specialists and I can get you the figures in 24 hours. The flight of doctors and health practitioners to other countries is another national issue that should be addressed systemically. In Ondo State, we will continue to do our best to improve the living conditions of workers and citizens of our dear state.”
