Governor promises to pay salary arrears before December, says Labour

Nigeria Labour Congress

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has assured civil servants that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has promised to pay workers outstanding salaries before the year runs out.

Workers are currently owed four- month salary.

The state Chairman of NLC and  National President of Nigerian Civil Service Union, Sunday Adeleye-Oluwole, made this known yesterday in Akure while speaking at the 7th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference of the Nigerian Civil Service Union.

He appealed to workers to be patient with the governor till the end of this year.

Adeleye-Oluwole, who described Governor Akeredolu as someone that never reneged on his promises, said the arrears would be paid.

He said: “Mr. Governor is not someone that will renege on his promise. But notwithstanding, they should continue to mount pressure on the Head of Service and Special Adviser on Labour Matters to continue to remind Mr. Governor.

“Two months ago, we met with the governor and he said he was making efforts that he was expecting some amount of money. Although he didn’t mention the amount, he agreed with us that all the money would be used in paying the arrears. It will be enough to pay arrears for workers at the state level.”

Ademola Olapade was re-elected as the Ondo State chairman of the union.

Ademola, who hailed Governor Akeredolu for meeting up with promotion of deserving workers, appealed for payment of outstanding salaries.

Head of Service Pastor John Adeyemo assured the workers that the state government will pay salary arrears before the year runs out.
