Govts urged to facilitate onion production

The National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN) has appealed to the state and federal governments to facilitate an enabling environment for the production of onion.

It said this would assist it to achieve its aims and goals in the area of contributing to the increment of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and creating jobs through onion production.

The appeal was made NOPPMAN National President Alhaji Aliyu Isah Maitsasumu during the association’s meeting in Abuja

He said the meeting was to discuss the achievements recorded in the onion sub-sector, the challenges they were facing and the way to solve them.

Listing some of the successes recorded, the NOPPMAN president said the association had initiated formal and documented exports, adding that it had embarked on modern onion storage facility in Kuje, Abuja, which was a new initiative in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.
