A group, No Alternative to Tinubu 2023, has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) to weigh the options available in choosing who becomes its presidential candidate.
In a statement in Lagos yesterday, the group’s coordinator, Vincent Uba, said considering the available options, direct or indirect primary and the consensus method viz-a-vis President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s interest, it (the body) urged the leadership of the party to be cautious in choosing the method to adopt.
He said: “They must consider what should be in the overall interest of the party.
“Personal sentiments and parochial interests should not be allowed to override the party interest. We want the APC that will, after primary election, remain strong, relevant and be able to win the 2023 general election.”
“We crave rancour-free primaries, a primary election where every contestant will be given a sense of belonging on a level playing field, when the spirit of sportsmanship will be on display, for candidates to accept the outcome of the exercise, which ultimately is the hallmark of democracy.”
