A non-government organisation, Movement for Disabled Right Forum, has urged Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to order a disband or reorganisation of Lagos State Office of the Disability Affairs (LASODA), to justify the aims and objectives of his administration in making life comfortable for Lagosians.
The group, in an address by its coordinator, Comrade Kehinde Oshilaja, on the occasion of the Christian Gift Day for People with Disability, held at its headquarters in Ebute-Meta, Lagos, said the governor had committed resources to uplift and sustain residents, including people living with disability, adding that it would be unfair if those saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the physically-challenged were taken care of, did not meet Ambode’s aspirations, as he promised during his campaign.
He said his body had complained to the agency, stressing the need to include thousands of well-educated and non-educated people living with disability in Lagos Mainland Local Government in its register, as directed by the governor at town hall meetings and a special get-together held with people living with disability.
“These appeals arise from our in-depth facts and records and we want the governor to succeed so that he will be re-elected, hence our request to begin an intervention to rescue people living with disability, particularly in Lagos Mainland Local Government/Yaba Local Council Development and the entire Lagos State from neglect and maladministration by LASODA,” Osilaja said.
