Gunmen abduct Dickson’s aide

Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday kidnapped the Special Adviser to Governor Seriake Dickson on Political Matters, Mr. Fyneman Wilson, and his personal aide identified simply as Fred.

The Nation gathered that the gunmen whisked Wilson, a close associate of Dickson, away at 4:00am to an unknown place.

He was reportedly kidnapped from his hometown in Sagbama, Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa State.

The incident occurred a few hours after Dickson in a well-attended rally formally declared his intention to seek re-election.

It was gathered that five gunmen struck at the special adviser’s house and seized him alongside his personal aide.

The bandits were said to have created panic in the area by shooting sporadically into the air before escaping with their victims.

Reason for the abduction of Wilson and his aide were unknown, though government sources blamed it on politics.

A government official, who spoke in confidence, said the incident had political coloration, adding that some persons were already getting scared of losing the December 5 governorship election.

He said: “There is definitely more to this abduction.  I can tell you without fear of contradiction that the kidnap of Wilson is politically motivated.

“With the governorship poll just a few months away, some people are getting really scared of the overwhelming support the Governor is receiving on a daily basis from Bayelsans and outside.

“They are facing the prospect of resounding defeat and will do anything, including kidnapping of key officials of this administration, to stave off that certain defeat.”
