Gunmen kill police corporal in Delta

A police Corporal was reported shot dead on Saturday when a gang of armed men attacked a police “stop-and-search” team at Kpakiama Junction in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the police team was on its routine duty when the armed gang stormed their spot and opened fire on them.

The hoodlums were said to have started beating the policemen, leaving the Corporal dead and others injured.

Some of the policemen were said to have escaped from the scene, but it could not be ascertained if the attackers stole arms from the security agents during the attack.

Police spokesman Andrew Aniamaka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said though he had not received an official report on the development, the attack really happened. The spokesman said five policemen were on duty when the attack happened.

But he could not confirm if the hoodlum stole firearms.

Aniamaka said: “Although I am yet to get a situation report, I can confirm to you that it is a fact. I wouldn’t know yet if firearms were stolen from them because I can’t confirm how many weapons they went out with. But there were five of them on duty at the place. Investigation had started.”
