Seven people have been killed and 26 others abducted in seven communities in Mashegu local government area of Niger State.
Renewed attacks by terrorists in the past five days have forced many residents from their communities.
Chairman of Mashegu Local Government Area, Umar Jibrin Igede, confirmed the attacks, saying that hundreds of residents in the council have been killed or abducted between January and March.
“Already, seven of the communities in the local government have been deserted as a result of these incessant attacks by the bandits.
“In the last two weeks, terrorists have unleashed terror on Kulho, Sahon Rami, and Tashan Hajiya among other communities. Most of the villagers in the affected communities have deserted their homes to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kontagora and other places for their safety.”
Igede appealed to the state government and other security agencies to come to their aid and bring an end to the attacks.
“The ongoing attacks on my people are posing a serious security threat to the villagers as the attacks of these armed bandits in Mashegu are becoming unbeatable and we need serious assistance from the relevant security agencies to come to our rescue,” he said.
