Gunmen have killed two policemen attached to a couple on Monday night.

They also kidnapped the couple, who were later freed.

The couple, The Nation gathered, was heading to Owerri Airport in Imo State before they were kidnapped.

Anambra Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu however said he had not received information on the incident.

He said he would make enquiries to find out what happened and revert but was yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

But a Senior Police Officer confirmed the incident to The Nation.

The Officer added the couple was dropped off by the hoodlums at Ukpor, Nnewi South local government area.

One of the relations of the wife said they were kidnapped at Okija on their way to airport in Owerri by the gunmen.

The source said two of their policemen were killed by the hoodlums while the husband was matcheted.

Their driver was also shot by their assailants. He was rushed to an hospital where he is receiving treatment.

A family source said: “They released them around 11pm. One of their relations received a call from one of the victims to send the driver to come and pick them up at Ukpor where they dropped them off.

“We are traumatised. I flew back to Anambra last night. I thank God they are alive and back to their community.”
