Gunmen have shot a 10-year-old boy in Effurun, Delta State. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening.
Eyewitnesses said the boy – the only son – was with his father in a Lexus RX Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), when the hoodlums struck near Licensing Office on Jakpa Road.
The Police Area Commander, Delta South, Mohd Shaba, who confirmed the incident, said the boy was hit by a stray bullet by the gunmen, who abducted a middle-aged woman.
The Nation learnt the woman was kidnapped in the presence of her two children, amid gunshots.
Shaba said: “A stray bullet hit the boy during the kidnap of a woman on Jakpa Road.”
He said the Divisionl Police Officer of Ekpan Division, Ahmed Umar, visited the victim at a private hospital, adding that the police are “on top of the matter and doing everything possible to rescue the victim.”
