•Gets ICAN accreditation for Accounting Dept

The Vice Chancellor, Hallmark University, Ijebu-Itele, Ogun State, Prof. Segun Odunola, yesterday disclosed that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has accredited Accounting Department of the institution.

Speaking at the 7th matriculation of the institution titled: ‘Character in Learning: the connection’, Odunola said with ICAN accreditation, students would be exempted from the foundationap examination of the professional institute, adding that they would also benefit from many programmes of the institute for development, fellowship and scholarships.

The university matriculated 125 students, with 57 from the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and 68 from the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences.

The VC said the university had secured accreditation of four programmes from the National University Commission (NUC).

He said: “This is a lifetime opportunity that has been given to you. Please guard it jealously by investing your time and energy in your academic pursuit for a rewarding future. This is a progressive call for you to strive for excellence in your academic work, field of play and behaviours.

“Let me assure you that departments offering programmes at Hallmark University are fully accredited by the NUC. In November 2022, the university presented our newest four programmes in the Departments of Microbiology, Mass Communication, Sociology and International Relations for accreditation. Let me express the gratitude of management to our Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments and all officers of the University for this accomplishment.

“I am also happy to inform this gathering that the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has accredited our accounting programmes for the 2021-2024/25 academic session. The implication of this is that our accounting students will be exempted in the Foundation examination of the professional institute and can also benefit from many programmes of the institute for development, fellowship and scholarships.”

Odunola warned the students to shun unethical practice such as drug abuse, cultism and examination malpractices.

He said: “Hallmark University has zero tolerance for unethical behaviours and actions, cultism, sexual immorality, drug abuse, examination malpractices, fighting, stealing, bullying, or any act that may cause threat to a fellow student, workers, or resident on campus.

“The matriculation oath, which you have just sworn, is binding and any violation will be met with the appropriate sanctions as listed in your handbook and code of conduct document.”

The guest speaker, Prof. Goke Lalude, urged the students to be of good character and concentrate on their studies.

He said they should strike a balance between learning and character.
