The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benue State Command, has confirmed that two of its personnel have been killed in an ambush by heavily-armed herdsmen in Makurdi, the state capital.
Spokesperson of the Corps Ejeilikwu Michael said yesterday that a third man was shot in the thigh and was being treated in hospital.
Michael said the attack took place at about 1.39pm on Friday in the Iniongun area of the state capital.
The Civil Defence men were killed while providing security cover for livestock guards, who arrested some cows violating the open grazing law in the “Iniongun area, near Lower Basin farming site in Makurdi.”
Iniongu, a suburb of Makurdi, is 15km from the city centre.
The bodies of the two NSCDC officials have been deposited at a morgue in the state capital, it was said.
