A hunter in Adamawa State, Usman Audu, has shot himself dead after what was apparently a mild disagreement with his mother.
Local sources who revealed the incident on Saturday said Usman, a member of the local vigilante, was berated by his mother after he beat up his own son for returning late from an errand.
Audu an indigene of Gada Maisaje, Gombi Local Government Area, allegedly lashed his four-year-old son with a cane for allegedly playing with some other children and delaying his return home from an errand.
His mother, however, viewed the punishment meted out to her grandson as too harsh and told Audu so.
Sources said that Audu apparently found the caution from his mother unacceptable and reacted in an unexpected manner, telling his mother that he would kill himself and leave the world for her.
“He then went for his Dane gun and shot himself in the stomach,” one of the sources said.
Audu was said to have been rushed to the hospital where a doctor confirmed him dead.
The source, who disclosed that the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 19, added: “The community is still puzzled by Usman’s (Audu’s) action.
“People are still wondering why he would kill himself just because his mother cautioned him against beating his own son.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the suicide incident, adding that it was being investigated by the state’s police command.
