‘I started football club to help young lads’

Proprietor of Essy Okunola Football Club, Ismail Okunola has revealed that the aim of his football club is to provide a platform for talented players to display their talents and promote the image of their countries.

Okunola, an ex footballer, who played for Young Stars FC, Ibadan, said he decided to create a platform for discovery, promotion and transfer of young talented players to clubs abroad in Europe, America, Asia and rest of the World, so as to impact lives positively and to also influence the narratives about football in Nigeria and Africa in general.

Okunola, who had worked with the Nigerian Embassy in Holland and the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom on football development, has partnered with professionals in football business to ensure easy and smooth running of his club.

The program which will be held inside the Stade de L’amite, Cotonou will attract scouts and Sporting Directors of Clubs from all over Europe and the United States who have been invited to the event to scout for talents.

Teams likes of Dragon FC, Requin FC, ASAC FC, AS Cotonou, Academie Top Foot, ABI Sport, ASADA FC, BES Academie all from Benin Republic and Togo, Smart City FC Lagos and Star Plus FC Enugu from Nigeria are all lined up to participate in the programme which will attract many dignitaries to Benin Republic.
