The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, has elevated Ibadan-born philanthropist and owner of Ilaji Hotel and Sport Resorts, Ibadan, Dotun Sanusi, an engineer; from Mogaji to Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Sanusi, who became the latest entrant to the civil line of the Olubadan chieftaincy system, was elevated together with 15 other senior chiefs ahead of him at the Alarere residence of Olubadan.

The elevation came a few weeks after the death of senior Chief Lateef Oyelade, which necessitated the movement of other chiefs behind the deceased in the civil line of Ibadan chieftaincy system.

Oyelade, who until his death was the Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadanland, died early last month, paving the way for 15 vacancies in the Otun line of the Olubadan chieftaincy system.

Rather than slug it out as it is always the case when Jagun positions are to be filled, all Mogaji agreed to allow Sanusi, who apart from being the Apesinola of Ibadan, is Mogaji of Olugbade compound of Oja’ba, to fill the void.

Speaking after his installation, Sanusi said his elevation was as a result of his contributions to the growth and development of Ibadanland.

He promised his commitments toward the uplift of Ibadanland, saying more good things would come because all he had done for Ibadanland was just a starting point.

Dignitaries at the event included the President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Niyi Ajewole; President, Association of Ibadan Mogaji, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori; elder brother to Oyo State governor, Chief Muyiwa Makinde, who was one of the promoted chiefs and mogajis; Nurudeen Akinade, the coordinator, Ibadan Compounds Peace Initiatives, among others.
