Mario Daser picked up the biggest win of his career by knocking out Ola Afolabi in the third round to win the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) International cruiser-weight title and vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) European title at the Barclaycard Arena, Hamburg on Saturday.
Afolabi, who came out of retirement for a last bite at a world title saw his corner throw in the towel after the 28-year-old German Daser knocked the 37-year-old Nigerian born Londoner down with a left to the body in the 3rd.
Afolabi, who spent hours in the sauna struggling to make the weight limit, tried getting up but his coaching crew thought otherwise and signaled the end of the fight. Daser had earlier knocked Afolabi with the same left to the body in the 2nd round.
Afolabi is best known for his action-packed four-fight series with Marco Huck and was a sparring partner of Klitschko brothers for 5 years.
This will be Mario Daser first title and has won all the 13 fights under his belt, 6 via knockouts.
