An Osun State High Court yesterday granted bail to a traditional ruler, Oba Ademola Ademiluyi, a cleric, Pastor Taiwo Fakowajo, and four other suspects arrested in connection with March 8 clash between Hausa settlers and Yoruba in Ile-ife.
The suspects, who had been remanded in prison custody since April 28, regained their freedom yesterday at the resumed hearing of the case.
The presiding judge, Justice Kudirat Akano, granted the suspects bail of N5m each, a surety of a Level 14 public officer or a monarch with a valid tax clearance.
Counsel to the defendants, Wale Olawoyin, and the Police counsel, Simon Lough, applied for the bail which the judge granted.
It would be recalled that the suspects were arrested and whisked away to Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, for interrogation before they were later brought to Osun State for trial after their controversial parade by the police.
Fifteen of the 21 suspects earlier arrested were first released unconditionally on April 14.
