Iheanacho rallies Leicester for relegation battle

After netting the equalizer in Leicester City’s comeback 2-1 win over Wolves, Kelechi Iheanacho believes the Coach Dean Smith’s side need to work together to remain in the Premiership.

Speaking to LCFC TV the Super Eagles striker felt a mixture of relief and pride to assist City’s quest for points in Dean Smith’s first game in charge at King Power Stadium.

“It’s a breath of fresh air,” he stated. “We really dug in well to get the three points. We really worked hard to get them. We have a strong character and obviously when we went a goal down, we didn’t stop pressing, we didn’t stop playing.

“We kept going and kept pushing each other to get the goal. We are really happy, sticking together as a group, doing this together with everybody – the staff, the players and the fans. We’re all proud and hopefully we keep that form in the next game.

“I think it’s mixed feelings because obviously we haven’t won in a long time and I think this gives the fans hope, the Football Club hope and it gives everyone hope to keep supporting, because so many people had doubted about our qualities, our togetherness and our football, everything. But today we showed character to win the game.”

It was the 25-year-old fifth Premier League goal of the campaign and second in as many games, but few have meant more than that one. He’s already looking ahead to another pivotal fixture in three days’ time, against Leeds United at Elland Road.

“I was confident, I was calm, but there is always pressure when you want to take a penalty because you don’t know if you’re going to miss or score so luckily I scored and got the goal.

“Together we did it. Vards (Vardy) got the penalty and he did really well, making a good run to get us a penalty to get back in the game.

“I don’t mind where I play, whether it’s up front, or No.10 or on the wing. I just need to help my team to get the points that we need. Together we can do it. We just stick together.

“We are going to enjoy it, but we need to focus on the next game now. Hopefully we keep the momentum going into the next game and keep winning,” he added.
