‘I’m not a bigot’

An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Jamiu Ekungba, has said he is not a religious bigot.

The denial followed a rumour by some party members that only Muslims would benefit from his administration, if he becomes governor.

He said he was not in the race because a Muslim had never ruled the state or because it was the turn of the northern senatorial district to produce the governor but because he had the capacity to do it.

Ekungba said: “I’m going to practise Islam properly and give Christians room to worship without hindrance.

“I will not be a governor to turn Muslims against Christians. If you do that in the sight of God, you will enter hell.

“I have so many friends who are Christians, if I am a religious bigot, these people will not be there for me today.”
