I’m not APC candidate, says Osun PDP aspirant

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has said neither President Muhammadu Buhari nor All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is sponsoring his governorship ambition.

In a statement in Osogbo, the state capital, by the director of his campaign directorate, Olalere Fagbola, the PDP aspirant described report of his sponsorship as wicked and the handiwork of his opponents.

He said his traducers were afraid of the overwhelming support he was enjoying across the state.

The statement reads: “The first balloon of mischief with which he was initially labelled was that he was a neophyte trying to reap where he had not sewed before it was punctured by the State Party Chairman.

“The Chairman, Sola Adagunodo, while putting the record straight, confirmed that Dr. Ogunbiyi, as a silent achiever, had been deeply involved in financing the party and its reconciliation processes in the past three years.

“He noted that since their rumours had refused to fly, they are now latching on another fallacy, which Ogunbiyi described as unfounded in its entirety.

“He explained that his choice of the PDP, which he affirmed as the best party and frontliner in deepening democratic governance in Nigeria, is not negotiable and that it is even inconceivable for anyone to imagine that he (Ogunbiyi) would work against the PDP, whose success story he has humbly been part of.

“As a firm believer and man of strong conviction in his mission to usher in good things of life for the people, Dr. Ogunbiyi stressed that no amount of blackmail and character assassination would deter him from his resolve to put Osun State on the front burner of economic recovery.”

The governorship hopeful, who urged his supporters to ignore those he called blackmailers, described them as “politicians with diminishing acceptance”.

“In serving the people of the state, Dr. Ogunbiyi takes delight in the strong belief that history and posterity would vindicate him as a true man whose governorship aspiration is a call to duty,” the statement added.
