Niger Delta for Peace Movement, Development and Initiative has called on the Federal Government to increase budgetary allocation for Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
The group said the increased allocation would allow the ministry to execute its vision and mission to empower youth and women.
It’s leader, Momos Wilberforce, told reporters in Abuja that an enhanced budget would address youth restiveness, poverty, joblessness, and underdevelopment in Niger Delta.
He said the group believed the new Minister, Umana Okon Umana, would channel the empowerment going on in the region to the right people.
It called on the minister to focus on the empowerment and capture the right persons in the region.
“We are making this call because most people benefiting from the empowerment are not from the region”, he said.
Group spokesman, Prince Awotu, noted that the budget of the ministry was too meagre, saying with increased allocation, Umana would execute more projects for the people.
While congratulating the minister and commending President Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment, he said the peace enjoyed in the region must be encouraged and sustained.
