Institution urges stakeholders’ collaboration to improve power supply

Mr Emmanuel Akinwole, the National Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), has advocated for collaboration among stakeholders to improve power supply in the country.

Akinwole, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday, also called for the engagement of professionals to run the country’s power sector.

He blamed the current challenges in the sector on the failure of the Federal Government to engage professionals.

“The problem of power in Nigeria can be addressed by engaging professionals who have the required training and understanding of the sector.

“You must have an understanding of a problem before proffering a solution to it; so, government must engage professionals and collaborate with stakeholders to make a head way in the sector.

“The problem of the power sector in Nigeria is not just funding but having people that can come up with appropriate solutions.”

According to him, the moment the right people who have good understanding of the sector are engaged, we can be sure of workable solutions to the problems.

He said the continuous injection of money into the sector without engaging the right professionals would amount to a waste of resources because no meaningful result would be achieved.

The NIEE chairman commended the Federal Government over efforts being made to ensure that all its establishments were ICT compliant.

He identified lack of understanding, poor maintenance culture and non-availability of equipment as the major challenges hindering the development of the ICT sector in the country.

Akinwole, however, expressed optimism that the problems would soon be over and urged Nigerians to embrace and take advantage of the opportunities in ICT.
