Health-based organisation, Health Place has said insufficiently controlled blood sugar can lead to kidney damage.
According to the organisation, kidney disease is a potential complication of diabetes over long periods of time.
It noted that diabetes may account for more than one-third of chronic kidney diseases.
It said: “Diabetes is a condition that impairs the body’s ability to process blood sugar. It is also the leading cause of kidney disease, which some may refer to as diabetic nephropathy.”
Foods suitable for diabetes and kidney disease, it said, are fruits such as berries, grapes, cherries apples, and plums.
Others, it said, are vegetables such ugu, onions, eggplant, and most greens sautéed.
“Eggs, unsalted seafood, and lean meats, such as poultry and fish, while whole grain bread, unsalted crackers, and pasta, water, and unsweetened herbs are also suitable for diabetes,” it noted.
