The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is partnering the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) on a three-month training programme for youths in eight vocational skills.
The skills are: Building technology, industrial automation, mechatronics, residential air conditioning and refrigerating maintenance. Others are mechanical services and maintenance, Electric/Electronics technology, mobile phone repairs and trouble shooting and Information/Communication Technology.
ITF Director-General, Joseph Ari, who spoke through the Head, Corporate Planning, Mrs. Yinka Shodunke, said the programme emerged when NCDMB officials visited the ITF.
He said in the first phase of the programme, 254 unemployed youths were trained and empowered with start-up kits, adding that some of the graduands were today gainfully employed, or are entrepreneurs employing other people.
“The MSTC have achieved some giant strides and so far ensured the assembling of ITF Mobile phone by the centre with plans to mass produce for the market and drive innovation in Nigeria. He urged the trainees of this phase of the programme to take advantage of the three months training so that at the end , they would have acquired the necessary skills to be employable and contribute meaningfully to the economy.
The Executive Secretary, Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, Simbi Wabote who was represented by Dr. Ama Ikuru, General Manager, Capacity Building of NCDMB, saying the training has yielded positive results as over 60 per cent of beneficiaries from the last phase are now entrepreneurs.
