A group, the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to revive the economy to avert the rising cases of suicide among Nigerian youths.
In a statement by its President, Oritsemeyin Edema, NAIG also advised the President to expedite action on the take-off of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Ogidigben in Delta State, which could employ about 150,000 Nigerians.
NAIG said it opposed the proposed sale of some of the nation’s assets, saying such move would worsen the current hardship among Nigerians.
It said: “We heard, initially, that President Buhari’s body language was fighting corruption. The reality is that his current body language does not seem he is sincere about his Change Agenda as the worsening economic meltdown has led to cases of suicide among Nigerian youths, increased crime rate and untold hardship, despite claims that over N3 trillion has been recovered from looted funds.
“The Federal Government should immediately kick-start the $16 billion EPZ, also known as Gas City Revolution, to steer the nation from the recession, instead of embarking on sales of our national assets to cronies who will only use them to further enslave the people, especially those of the Niger Delta who host the major target assets.
