A former Chairman of Daily Trust Editorial Board, Mallam Mahmud Jega, designated as Book Reviewer, and Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, are eminent Nigerians billed to chair a book launch that chronicles issues around the June 12, 1993 elections and the end of the Third Republic.
The book, set for unveiling on September 20 in Abuja, is coming nearly three decades after the historic incident.
It was written by the National Association of Political Correspondents (NAPOC 1990s), many of whom witnessed the scenario that played out during the time.
Titled: Nigeria’s Aborted Third Republic and the June 12 Debacle: Reporters’ Accounts, the volume features 242 pages and 32 chapters put together by journalists who occupied the frontline of reporting the General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) transition programme from inception to cessation.
The book presentation will hold at the National Press Centre of Radio House at Garki in Abuja.
Also expected are: the national chairmen of the defunct Third Republic political parties, Chief Tom Ikimi of the National Republican Convention (NRC) and Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), besides governors, senators, House of Representatives members and other political actors and juggernauts of that era.
The quartet of Professor Abiodun Adeniyi (Baze University, Abuja), Dr. Segun Olanipekun (U.S.A), Mr. Deba Uwadiae (U.S.A) and Dr. Emeka Nwosu (Abuja), edited the book which contains exclusive revelations and analyses on the key personalities and clandestine dramas that defined the aborted Third Republic.
