Jigawa govt pays N16b debt

Jigawa

The Jigawa State governor has paid N16 billion from the N37 billion debt inherited from the previous administration.

The money was spent on road projects.

Commissioner of Works and Transport Aminu Usman Gumel, while reviewing his ministry’s performance in 2017, said “the debt was for 15 roads projects covering 476 kilometres”.

According to him, Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar met about 15 road projects, worth over N54 billion, on which the previous administration paid a little percentage.

His words: “So far, about 11 have been completed and some opened, while the remaining are at completion level and to be inaugurated in the first quarter of next year.

“The previous administration awarded contracts worth over 54 billion, of which only N17 billion was paid, leaving a debt of over N16 billion.

“When Governor Abubakar took over the mantle of leadership, he met only N16 million in the state treasury, with over N7 billion contracts certificates waiting for payment.”
