Kwara state government has demoted a teacher, Hajia Hamzat Fatimoh Nike, by two grade levels for violating public service rules.
Hajia Hamzat, a staff member at Government Day Junior Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin, was accused of assaulting and stripping a female youth corps member posted to the school.
In a joint statement by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, and the Executive Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, the government revealed that an investigative panel found the teacher guilty of misconduct, including fighting on duty, insubordination, use of foul language, and disrespecting the NYSC uniform.
As part of her punishment, Hajia Hamzat will be transferred from her current school and required to undergo counseling sessions.

“The state government will not tolerate such abuse under any guise. We deeply regret the teacher’s actions and reassure the National Youth Service Corps that this incident does not reflect the values of our state. Measures are in place to prevent a recurrence,” the statement read.
The government also urged teachers to adhere to public service ethics and assured them of continued training on teaching principles and professional conduct.
