Non-indigenes of Kwoi in Jaba Local Government of Kaduna State, affected by a series of earth tremors between Sunday and Tuesday, have begun moving out.
Sources said shops belonging to the non-indigenes were locked up after they had packed out their ware and personal belongings.
It was gathered that those who were into other forms of employment also fled.
Jonathan Sati, from Jaba, said: “There was a small tremor on Tuesday night, and another on Wednesday afternoon. The Igbo traders and other non-indigenes decided to leave. The majority moved out between Sunday afternoon and today (Thursday).
“There were 26 vibrations on Monday alone. Those who stayed back were not sure but now, they are leaving. I can’t remember any of them that I know who is still around, except those married here.
“As for us the natives, we can’t really think of where to go now because this is our ancestral land. But that does not mean we are not afraid. We are all living in fear, especially now that the tremor is happening repeatedly.”
Senator Danjuma Laah (PDP, Kaduna South) has visited Kwoi and appealed for calm.
He assured residents that the Federal Government-appointed geo-physicists would visit Kwoi to conduct a detailed investigation.
He said: “I have come here to see for myself this frightening development. It is unimaginable that such a thing has happened in Southern Kaduna but as people of faith, let’s take it as the wonders of the Almighty.
“On my part, I shall go back and ensure that I engage the Federal Government to send in their best geo-physicists to determine the cause of this problem and a possible recurrence. I shall also insist that the government puts evacuation logistics in place, should there be need to evacuate people in a hurry if, God forbids, it happens on a bigger scale.
“It is unfortunate that some lost their homes and some houses are badly cracked but a relief that no life was lost, neither was any serious injury recorded.
“Please go about your livelihood calmly and let’s trust God that this is the end of it all.”
Laah later visited the Kpop Ham of Kwoi, Dr. Danladi Solomon Maude, and they met in private.
