The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has cautioned politicians in Abia State to avoid setting the state on fire.
Kalu, a former governor of the state, who was reacting to the political developments in the state said that he was worried over what he described as the “overheating of polity” in the state by the political class.
According to the Abia North Senatorial District lawmaker, the dangerous turns the issue of zoning of the gubernatorial seat was taking isn’t healthy for democracy in the state.
Kalu while noting that any Abian, irrespective of the senatorial zone they come from, have the right to contest for the Abia governorship position in 2023. “I have spent the majority of my Easter holiday inspecting and commissioning the road projects, school renovations and distribution of educational materials I attracted to my constituency, Abia North Senatorial District.
“One disturbing thing I have observed is the overheating of the polity by some political leaders of our dear state over the issue of zoning of the governorship seat. I am appealing to them not to set the state on fire.
“Instead of overheating the polity, what we should be doing now is to talk about what we have achieved since we were elected and the things we intend to do subsequently.
“Governorship aspirants, irrespective of where they come from should be allowed to contest because it is their right to do so, but at the appropriate time, I shall speak on the issue of zoning and Abians would also make their choice from the best among all.”
