The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has decried the inability of Adamawa, Kano, Bauchi and Gombe States to signbthe child rights act into law.

The delay, it said, deprives the States the requisite legal frameworks for protecting children.

The four States are the only ones left out of the 36 States of the federation yet to sign and adopt the Child Rights Act.

UNICEF Child Protection Manager, Kano Field Office, Mrs Emelia Allan, stated this to reporters in Kano.

She said State Assemblies also contributed to the delays.

According to her: “We started this year with 9 States. Today, as I speak with you we are left with 4 States, Kano, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe that are yet to sign the child rights act.

‘’In Kano particularly, the child rights bill was sent to the State House of Assembly for the past two years but has not been signed by the lawmakers’’.
