Kano govt, Police dispel rumour of planned attack on schools

Apprehension  and fear yesterday gripped the ancient of Kano, over rumours making the rounds that terrorists plans to invade and kidnap students in boarding Schools in the State.

Following the threat, parents and guardians immediately  rushed to various Primary and Secondary schools to evacuate their children over fear of being abducted.

In a swift reaction, over the rumour making the rounds, the Kano State Government, yesterday categorically dispelled the rumours, especially on the Social Media platforms over an alleged security threat in form of invasion and kidnapping of students in Boarding Schools in the State.

In a statement, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, said  the rumours are been peddled by unpatriotic and heartless people, in order to create chaos and tension in the state.

He described the said rumour as baseless, unfounded and urged residents to discard it and go about their normal business.

 The statement therefore advised members of the public, especially parents, guardians and care givers to remain calm and allow their wards to remain in School until the completion of their examination.

Furthermore, the State Government, assured residents of the state that adequate security measures haved been put in place to ensure the protection of lives and property of the people, including schools in the State.

Meanwhile, the Police in Kano have urged parents to disregard the rumours of attack on Schools, as false and unfounded.

In a statement by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Musa Magaji Majiya, said: ” The attention of the Kano State Police Command has been drawn to a rumour, currently circulating in the Social Media that the State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools for fear of attack. ” I wish to inform parents and stakeholders in the Education Sector that the information is untrue, orchestrated by mischief makers to cause pandemonium.”

According to the statement, :”The Command has a Consultative Security Committee, comprising Principals of all Secondary Schools and parents in the State, which sits periodically to highlight security situation in the schools and evolve advanced proactive measures of maintaining and sustaining the safety and security of lives and property, especially in and around our Schools.

”We therefore call on parents, stakeholders and all good people of the state to disregard the rumour, as the Command is working tirelessly to provide maximum security in all the Schools and the state in general.”

However, security has been placed on red alert to ward off any eventuality.
