Katsina NYSC plans to restructure orientation camps

The Katsina State branch of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to restructure the orientation camps to ensure “compact and habitable premises for everyone.”

The State NYSC Coordinator, Hajia Muhammad Aisha who stated this during a chat with reporters in her office in Katsina described the present NYSC orientation camp in Katsina as not conducive enough for the activities of the agency.

She said: “NYSC orientation camp is supposed to be a closed camp. Closed in the sense that everyone inside has a common ground of a thing to do with NYSC. Here, we have a craft village and I am surprised to know that we also have a Ministry of Science and Technology in the same compound.

“You will agree that the NYSC Katsina orientation camp is quite different from others in the country. It is expected that the reconstructed premises will turn into the common ground and have something to do with NYSC.

“First thing is that this community is not for NYSC alone, although I have visited the Government House, my first assignment is on familiarisation with the governor and not to start presenting problems.”

“Our relationship with the state government has been built up, next time when I go; we will begin to talk about problems.”

She further assured the corps members and the community that her management will ensure a camp that is habitable for the NYSC alone, describing the camp currently as being big and needing to be separated from the craft village.

On how she will go about implementing her restructuring plans, she said that her management intends to approach the state government to intimate them and seek their approval and cooperation.

She said: “Telling the Governor to move any of the facilities out of their present location may be totally out of place.  All we need to do is seek his approval. There is a point where we can cut off the craft village and build a gate from behind.”
