The Katsina State Government has said that those who were allotted lands but failed to develop them after two years risked losing them, as the lands would be re-allocated.
The State’s Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Alhaji Usman Nadada, who stated this in a chat with our correspondent in his office in Katsina, said the era of heightened land speculation and frivolous practices is over warning that the state government is in haste to streamline land development practices in the state before it leaves office next year.
The commissioner also said with the attainment of full digitisation of the certification process which has led to the issuance of e-certificates, the stage is set for the overhauling of the certification process which certainly will materialise in the execution of 50,000 certificates by December.
He said: “The moribund analogue process of land certification under Shema’s administration could only execute 2,000 certificates but with the introduction of the digitisation process under Masari’s administration, we have gone up to 12,000 certificates as of June this year and hope to attain 50,000 certificates by the ending of the year.
“The main mandate of the ministry is to administer and control the use of land within the state, and so far during this administration, it has been very rewarding, because we have achieved so many milestones and we have not deviated from the norms guiding how we were doing it before.
“More has been done on planning, the use of the land and we have introduced so many things, new innovations that are more beneficial to the use of land and its administration, in the state.”
The commissioner further highlighted other gains made on land administration, including the introduction of a fully digitised Geographic Information System with the acquisition of mapping equipment and technologies that have successfully moved the e-certification process from the analogue system.
He said: “On issuing of the certificate, we have digitised the system instead of issuing a manual certificate, now it is an e-certificate and everything regarding the issuance of the certificate is computerised.”
